about

Once noted as Bob Heart's favourite Pippen composition, Quickly Or Quietly was composed as a matter of necessity at the end of the Coming Clean sessions. With an altogether darker theme, it's no wonder it didn't get rerecorded for Bill's suite on the CC album. Pippen distanced himself from the track, never playing it live, even refusing permission for the release on an initial planned compilation of singles and rarities. Thanks to his death we can finally listen back to this lost masterpiece!

lyrics

You got me acting like a fool
You got me repenting sins
I ask if you even notice me
The answer is quite obvious

Quickly or quietly
I don’t care which
Acting quite casually
It won’t cure the itch
Quickly yet quietly
That’s how it goes
You’re so strange you’re so
Strange you’re so strange you’re so
Strange you’re so strange you won’t
Change

And we’re living in changing times
We pretend that everything’s fine
And we’re living by the book
The end is somewhere
You got to look

And we’re dancing the same dance
We’ve been doing for years
Time to admit the truths brother
You fell into that machine...
You fell into that pulping machine

Quickly or quietly
I don’t care which
Acting quite casually
It won’t cure the itch
Quickly yet quietly
That’s how it goes
You’re so strange you’re so
Strange you’re so strange you’re so
Strange you’re so strange and you
Change as we all get
Older

And we’re living in changing times
We pretend everything’s fine
But we’re moving through
Changing times
We all know nothing’s ever fine

And I’m coming clean
I’m coming clean
Out of the pulping machine
Damn apple churning pulping machine
I am coming clean!

And we’ve lived through some
Changing times
We both know
It’ll all be fine
And you’re living in
A fantasy
I control you
You are mine
