Guilty 03:30
Guilty of my sins, I’ve sinned before Caught in the moment, another battle in this war One day I hope, everyone can be free We’ll all hold hands… For when that day comes, the innocent shall be free Guilty of my sins, I know your pain Holding in my fears, a life of refrain Dancing with your demons, they laugh out loud I have fed the thirst, and that thirsty crowd One day I hope, everyone can be free We’ll all hold hands… For when that day comes, the innocent shall be free For when that day comes, the innocent shall be, Free

Moving On 03:18
I have to move on to be strong I have to move on if it’s the last thing I do to stay alive I’ve got no reason to be afraid Although my mind keeps remind me of fateful doings You can rise and fall like a butterfly But in the end you know you’re to blame I can cry to the Lord and he will answer me For that is the Christian way [Chorus] People of the World must all join hands Congregate at your local Church For the word of God is above all other Together we can go forth to make the world a safer place [Chorus] Give your life to God Give your life to the Holy Spirit Give your life to a Christian cause Together I know we can do it!

Chances fall, for me and you Catch my drift, I’ll help you through Time will pass, the clock goes round Hence forthwith my silence and sing out loud Time will pass (you know it) Time will pass (feel it) Time will pass (smell it) Time will pass (forgive it) Sampson said to Goliath one day “Have you heard that David’s coming your way?” He said “no”, “what, pardon?”, “no, nay!” A fight ensued and one had to lose [Chorus]

Imprisoned 01:16
Is there anybody out there who can feel my pain? Anyone there who feels the same? Unless you’re in gaol or prison or a cell You cannot know the feeling I know so well
6.
My home is my jail: escape I can’t fail Took a life, held to blame; Things have never been the same My home is jail. Find help when I need it: it’s anger and I feed it What I've done feels so wrong, What can I do to recover? My home is my jail. Hold me prisoner, break my bones I feel it now, all alone Call to you, you laugh out loud Feed the thirst, not the crowd This pain I hold cannot be heard, I cry for you a geek a nerd Make a wish, die real quick Life’s so fast now I’m feeling sick My home is my jail. Locked in silence, for what I’ve done I thought I’d take the lead, but he won It hurts inside to know this pain I’ve lived and learned I earned my grain My home is my jail. My home is my jail, escape I can’t fail: My home is my jail.
7.
Every night I pray for your forgiveness I know what I’ve done and I know the pain I’ve caused Every pint of blood swimming through my selfless corpse Cries out and says “I’m sorry, I love you” To be so close and so apart – Knowing what I’ve done aches my heart You can do what you want to me I owe you my life, independent, whole, entire. Self harming feels so wrong but it’s all I can do to redeem myself I owe you so much yet you take so little I’m begging forgiveness for my sins I’m begging forgiveness for my wrongs I’m begging forgiveness for my sins I’m begging forgiveness for my wrongs I’m begging forgiveness for my sins I’m begging forgiveness for my wrongs I’m begging forgiveness for my sins I’m begging forgiveness for my wrongs Please forgive me – please forgive me Please forgive me – please forgive me Please forgive me – please forgive me Please forgive me – Philip I need you!

about

The Beatles had Sgt. Peppers', Pink Floyd had Dark Side, Queen had Greatest Hits II; up there with them all is Bill & Bob's 'Coming Clean'.

Released at the duos creative peak, Coming Clean was always destined to have the power to explode the band into pop/rock history, or destroy momentum and ultimately any possibility of legacy. Although it might not have completely done the latter, it certainly didn't do the former; it seems the bold move to replace band name with Christian cross on the album sleeve did not work to their favour. At the time it reflected Pippen's recent conversion to the faith which he would soon lose over the proceeding years.

History now being history, the album can be reflected upon free of time's constriction. Maybe 1993 wasn't ready for 'Truth Is Out' for instance; arguably Heart's biggest statement throughout the discography. A 20 minute piledriver of world musics: from the best of black music to good ol' faithful white rock. Tracy Marrow, aka Ice-T, makes an infamous appearance adding an urban aggression the band would later return to (primarily on 'Sheep Alert'); the fan base didn't like it at the time however and listening back, it's understandable: the rap dates the track hideously.

From the hard hitting epic opener follows Bill's tracks, commonly known as the Coming Clean Suite. Dedicated to his brother Philip, the songs if anything are too emotive - conjuring up dark depths of introspection and self critique: resonated through the folkloric beauty of simple interweaved multitracked harmonies. If 'The Pulp' [1985] displayed his mental breakdown on tape, tracks such as Guilty, Time Will Pass and My Home Is My Jail show Bill's spiritual reconciliation.

An album of two halves, it encompasses both Pippen and Heart's talents individually whilst unified in its consistency. Bill & Bob at their best.

Note on the production: "I've been asked numerous times about the differences in sound between The Truth Is Out and the Coming Clean Suite. Bill was insistent on producing his tracks, whereas I [Bob] opted to co-produce Truth Is Out akin to our previous album: professionally. On the 2013 remaster I have remained loyal to Bill's wish of his mixes being untampered with; thus the difference in sound."
